Speciality Doctor in A&E

One of the NHS foundation trusts is seeking to appoint a Speciality Doctor in A & E and join the current middle grade rota with a variety of day and night shifts based in Lincoln, East Midlands.

Company description
This hospital is a large and modern complex, catering for most of the major specialities and has 557 beds. The A&E Department was purpose built in 1993 and is the main A&E centre for the area. It currently treats 65,000 new patients per year. The department treats all types of accidents and emergencies and patients of all ages. The department has recently undergone a refurbishment that has given a four bedded resuscitation room.
The local Out of Hours service is co-located within the A&E Department. There is shop floor Consultant cover 8am - 10pm Monday to Friday and 8am - 8pm at weekends, with 24 hour consultant on call cover.
Duties

• Manage patients that attend the A&E Department
• Organise admissions and referrals, ensure that investigations and prescriptions are appropriate and that notes are kept to a satisfactory standard.
• Expertise in resuscitation skills for both adult and children. Perform simple procedures including manipulation of fractures, dislocations etc under local anaesthetic and sedation.
• Responsible for shop floor running of the department with consultant supervision, with supervision of junior doctors
• Opportunities for teaching
• Managing flow in the department and helping to maintain the 4 hour standard.

Continuing professional development and contribution to the growth of the department will be actively encouraged.

Desired Skills & Experience
• Full GMC Registration
• Postgraduate experience in Accident & Emergency - 1 year
• Teaching and training of post/undergraduate medical staff
• Excellent interpersonal skills - ability to communicate sensitively with patients, relatives and staff.
